About Us
(We are Bob & Carol Hayes of Hays, Kansas and this is our story.)
It was a warm July day when a trip to the craft show changed our lives forever. You see, there was a sign on the entrance to the craft show stating "Don't miss the Cat Show across the street."That was all it took! Although i had always been a cat lover and had even dreamed of owning a cattery I wasn't sure how to accomplish it. Well, that cat show started everything. We were immediately drawn to the Maine Coon cats and were soon traveling all over to visit show after show.
Our first Maine Coon was a brown tabby that we intended to show in Premiership(altered class)but soon realized two things: first,he was a very good boy becoming a regional winner, and second, we REALLY did enjoy spending our weekends in the show halls. We have chosen our breeding boys and girls very carefully to develop a large boned ,medium to large kitty with a great personality. They are outcrossed lines so as to discourage inbreeding.
We now have a small cattery located in a small town in western Kansas. Our cattery goal is to produce happy, healthy kittens true to the breed standard. We specialize in brown and red Maine Coons, with and without white. Our cattery is our home as we feel that is the only way to raise kittens. It is our intend to breed for quality not quanity having a limited number of litters a year.Health and disposition are the backbone of our cattery. All kittens are born in are bedroom where they are handled everyday. As soon as they are up and around the real fun begins. We feel like it is very important for the kittens to be socialized with interaction not only with people bit with other cats as well.
Our kittens are guaranteed to be FIV and FeLV negative and have all their shots as well as being Vet examined prior to placement. We expect people purchasing our kittens to provide them with a happy home environment. We ask that they DO NOT go outside without supervision and are groomed weekly to prevent matting.Kittens should be spayed or neutered by 6 to 8 months of age as we retain the registration papers until proof of spay/neuter has been received. The most important thing a kitten buyer can do is to show the kitten lots of love.Maine Coons are social kitties and love to be around people. They are companion cats following their owners all over.We love to have pictures and notes from our kitten buyers so thst we can see how they have developed and how they are fitting in with the family.
We encourage prospective kitten buyers to visit us whenever possible to view the available kittens and our cattery. We,like most breeders, love to show off our babies and talk about them. Please join us on line or in person. You can contact us by phone or e-mail us at Cooncats@eaglecom.net
